    <title>Professional career of women scientists in the light of Gender stereotypes</title>

    <description>Title: Professional career of women scientists in the light of Gender stereotypes
Authors: Barros, Suzane Carvalho da Vitória; Silva, Luciana Mourão Cerqueira e
Abstract: Science was established by men, and women work in this field has been denied &#xD;
for many years. Despite the reduction of gender inequalities in the research world, the late and &#xD;
lower female insertion still has its brands in this universe. Thus, this study aimed to analyze the &#xD;
discourse of Brazilian researchers about their careers with a focus on gender relations and the &#xD;
process of career choice. Participants were nine women, permanent teachers in stricto sensu &#xD;
graduate studies programs, with diverse areas of knowledge and scientific career levels. Seven &#xD;
interviews were conducted in person and two with audio and video interaction. We used a script &#xD;
with stimulus-questions and, later, reports were analyzed according to the categorical content. &#xD;
The overall results showed that career choices of women researchers did not go through explicit &#xD;
situations of prejudice or gender inequality, but their professional trajectories did. The results &#xD;
are discussed in the light of the literature in the area and suggested further studies that allow &#xD;
enlarging the reflections on the subject.

Abstract: A sociedade brasileira tem vivenciado mudanças, mas pode-se falar em equidade de condições para homens e &#xD;
mulheres? O objetivo deste artigo foi apresentar um estudo teórico com o panorama da participação feminina na &#xD;
sociedade brasileira, com especial atenção para a educação superior e o mercado de trabalho. São apresentadas &#xD;
estatísticas que permitem comparar e discutir dados femininos e masculinos sobre: a escolha acadêmica; o número &#xD;
médio de horas dedicadas às atividades de trabalho e às atividades domésticas/familiares; e a remuneração média &#xD;
no mercado de trabalho. Os resultados apontam padrões distintos – de acordo com o gênero – na escolha do &#xD;
curso superior, na assunção de responsabilidades relativas às tarefas domésticas/familiares. Além disso, os dados &#xD;
mostram que as áreas predominantemente masculinas apresentam maiores salários e prestígio, e as mulheres, &#xD;
quando exercem essas tarefas, ganham menos. Concluímos com reflexões sobre os fatores que, ainda hoje, &#xD;
levam às diferenças de gênero na sociedade.

    <title>Gender and science: An analysis of brazilian postgraduation</title>

    <description>Title: Gender and science: An analysis of brazilian postgraduation
Authors: Barros, Suzane Carvalho da Vitória; Silva, Luciana Mourão Cerqueira e
Abstract: Gender issues are present in different work environments, including the academic world. This secondary data research &#xD;
aimed to compare, by gender, distribution and scientifi c output of Brazilian faculty who are active in stricto sensu &#xD;
postgraduation. A collection protocol was developed to capture data made available by the Coordination of Improvement &#xD;
of Higher Education Personnel, in the quadrennium 2013-2016 (n = 50.533, 57.5% men). The results indicate no &#xD;
difference in production by gender, but the following gender disparities in the researchers’ career were identifi ed: (i) &#xD;
female prevalence in the areas of Health, Humanities and Linguistics and Arts, and male prevalence in the Exact and &#xD;
Earth Sciences, Engineering and Agrarian Sciences; (ii) gender differences in favor of men in the earning of research &#xD;
productivity scholarships. We conclude that a reduction in gender disparities in science is expected over time, although &#xD;
there is still a male predominance in the scientific field.
