Efeito da suplementação nutricional com fórmula enriquecida com ácido eicosapentaenóico (EPA) no perfil inflamatório de pacientes com câncer de cavidade oral em pré-tratamento antineoplásico: Estudo clínico, randomizado e controlado

Abstract

O objetivo do trabalho foi investigar o efeito da suplementação nutricional com fórmula enriquecida com ácido eicosapentaenoico (EPA) no perfil inflamatório de pacientes com câncer de cavidade oral em pré-tratamento antineoplásico. Trata-se de um estudo conduzido com 53 pacientes com câncer de cavidade oral em pré-tratamento antineoplásico que foram randomizados em dois grupos: o grupo controle recebeu suplemento em pó sem EPA durante 4 semanas e o grupo intervenção recebeu suplemento líquido enriquecido com EPA (2g), pelo mesmo período. Na primeira consulta (T0) e após 4 semanas de suplementação (T1) foram medidas as concentrações séricas de albumina, pré-albumina, proteína C reativa (PCR) e interleucina 6. Os valores de PCR e da relação PCR/ albumina foram menores no grupo intervenção em relação ao grupo controle. Entretanto,quando comparados os grupos Controle e EPA após intervenção, não foram observadas diferenças significativas. Foi observada uma significativa correlação negativa entre os níveis de PCR e albumina e IL-6 e albumina, tanto no grupo controle, quanto no grupo EPA. Entre as concentrações de IL-6 e PCR foi observada uma correlação positiva em ambos os grupos. Não houve diferença significativa, nos parâmetros avaliados, entre o grupo que recebeu o suplemento padrão e o suplemento enriquecido com EPA.

The objective of the study was to investigate the effect of nutritional supplementation with formula enriched with eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) on inflammatory profile of patients with oral cavity cancer in antineoplastic pre-treatment. It was conducted with 53 patients who were randomized into two groups: the control group received a powdered supplement without EPA during four weeks, and the intervention group received a liquid supplement enriched with EPA (2g) during the same period. In the baseline (T0) and after four weeks of supplementation (T1), it was measured serum concentrations of albumin, prealbumin, C -reactive protein (CRP), and interleukin-6 (IL-6). Values of CRP and of CRP/albumin ratio were lower in the intervention group than in the control group. However, when the two groups were compared to each other after intervention, it was not observed any significant difference. There was a significant negative correlation between levels of CRP and albumin, and IL-6 and albumin, both in the control and in the intervention groups. In both groups, it was observed a positive correlation between concentrations of IL-6 and CRP. There was no significant difference in the assessed parameters between the group that received standard supplement and the group that received supplement enriched with EPA.
