dc.terms.abstract | Pulmonary ablation is a minimally invasive procedure currently used in patients with no possibility of surgical treatment in order to cure or provide palliative cytoreduction. It is usually stated in the curative treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) stage I non surgical (with cardiovascular comorbidity or reduced lung function test) and metastasis of colorectal carcinoma, renal cell, CHC, sarcoma and melanoma. Published results to date show a more promising lung ablation outcome in treating less then 5 lesions having 3 centimeters (cm) upper limit size. The procedure has low morbidity and mortality, does not alter lung function, provides shorter hospital stay as well as substantial improvement in quality of life in view of the postoperative virtually painless when compared to thoracotomy. Radiofrequency ablation (RF) and cryoablation are two techniques for pulmonary ablation. The RF establishes an electric fields causing friction between the ions of the tissue generating heat. Cryoablation is to alternate cycles of freezing and thawing using probes within which gases argon and helium go through, causing cell death and vascular thrombosis. | pt_BR |
