The advanced medical directive, are written or verbal instructions prepared by someone competent regarding the assistance or suspension of medical care in case of illness where one is incapable of pronouncing his own will (Neves et al., 2010). In the present study, the question to this investigation is centered in knowing in what manner will the construction of a model of advanced medical directives contribute in a better management of health care units? To accomplishment this it was necessary to effectuate a bibliographical research on the main concepts and state of the knowledge that contributed to the definition of the objectives in the empirical study: After researching the main concepts described in the biographical documentation, we defined the following empirical goals:  To create a knowledge base concerning advanced medical directives as well as the creation of a model to determine its acceptability in health care units within Portugal.  Identify the active roles in the implementation of this process. As for the study of the advanced medical directives in Portugal, and especially in health care units, an exploratory and descriptive methodology was adopted, to identify the main characteristics and developments being investigated in this area. The main conclusion is that, although there are some initiatives within a politic level, society in general is not yet awakened to this problematic, bay be the reason for the absence of clear politics regarding health care units.-

The concern for patient safety, which is an important factor in the matter of health care quality, is currently a highly relevant topic among researchers from around the world. Malpractices occur anywhere where health care is provided and in most situations preventive measures are possible. The objective of this case study is to reveal, through a bibliographic review, the debate over the topic of patient safety since the twenty-first century, focusing on the relevance as a global public health issue. In addition, the studyresearch discusses the challenges related to gaps and perspectives on this issue and its approach in the Brazilian reality. The results of this analysis suggest that investigation on the subject of patient safety has weaknesses in its approach to be better defined and established. They have also identified barriers, such as a high demand in the emergency rooms of urban cities, the low self-confidence of the professionals that makes the malpractice, wiliness of all professionals and managers to take preventive routines, and challenges to be faced, such as the lack of strategy development and specific political health actions, both for research and for health literature on public administration.-
